Award-winning media artist snapped up by Ultimatte

Ultimatte Corporation have revealed hat Zbigniew Rybczynski has joined Ultimatte as the Senior Developer for Ultimatte's next generation of matte extraction and compositing algorithms.
Zbig is considered one of the most original film and video artists in the media, from his award-winning short films and music videos to his latest work with HDTV and compositing software development.
His 26 years in the construction of film and video images from separate elements recently lead Zbig to discoveries in the field of "science of image", which he now has formulated into principals of "visual motion" and "equations of image". Based on these findings, in 2001 he has been awarded two new patents concerning techniques for creating visual images using digital technology.
Zbig's contribution to Ultimatte's products has already begun, with new image processing techniques to reverse the adverse effects of 4:2:2, 4:1:1 and 4:2:0 video image compression on blue/green screen matte extraction.
"Since the birth of digital images and connected technologies we are witnessing steady growth of the importance of visual special effects. The art of connecting those elements into one coherent and convincing image is the most important, expensive, and difficult part of every production of special effects," said Zbigniew Rybczynski, Senior Developer for Ultimatte.
Lynne Sauvé, President of Ultimatte Corporation, said: "Zbig has been a long-time customer of Ultimatte products, and through his input, he helped us to address issues faced by the production community, thereby adding to the functionality and usability of all our products today."
Zbig's work in film and video has earned him numerous awards including an Oscar in 1983 for Best Animated Short, three MTV Music Video Awards, three American Video Awards, three Monitor Awards for Best Director, the 1986 Billboard Music Video Award for Most Innovative Video, the 1986 BPI Video of the Year Award, as well as grand prizes at the Festivals at Annecy France.
In 1990, Zbig won his first Emmy award for special effects produced in his film 'The Orchestra', which was the first Emmy ever awarded to a High Definition production.
