Veale Builds London Music College Facility

News Image
Hertfordshire-based music recording and post facility design consultancy Veale Associates has created a new recording studio project for the London College of Music, part of the University of West London.

The project, at the University’s St Mary’s Road, Ealing site, combines a recording studio complete with control room, live room and drum booth, with a post-production studio.
The development is part of a multi-million pound campus regeneration scheme for the university, aimed at improving students’ learning and social experience. VA worked with principal contractor Willmott Dixon to create the studio facilities, having been involved in the design and build of sound and recording studios for both Falmouth and Middlesex Universities.
"The project proved to be a significant success due to its timeline. Most projects of this kind have a minimum lead time of four months for design and install and VA only had six weeks due to the nature of the program," said Eddie Veale, Veale Associates' head consultant. "All acoustic projects are different, and this one presented the particular challenge of designing a set of studios to a very tight program, absorbing the unknown literally as it presented, and within that constraint, provide flagship facilities which will give the students the same working environment that they will experience in real world studios later in their careers. I am proud that not only did we achieve high end teaching studios but a snag free handover too, and the University is very pleased with the results."
"Flagship facilities have become increasingly important in the education sector not only to attract prospective students but also in enabling establishments to undertake profitable commercial activities," comments Justin Randell, VA’s technical consultant and Head of VA’s Education Division. "VA understands the requirement for a versatile and durable space, in line with industry expectation and standards. Our aim is to assist and guide clients in the education sector, making the right choices that will ensure optimal use of resources, while delivering a studio on time and within budget as demonstrated by what we hope will become a valuable addition to the St Mary’s Road campus."
