Observe OB select Calrec S2 console

Dublin-based outside broadcast specialists Observe OB have expanded their fleet with the installation of a 48-channel Calrec S2 console into new unit SS3.
The new scanner recently made its debut at the Heineken European Rugby Cup Final at Lansdowne Road Stadium, Dublin. Live feeds were sent to RTE, the BBC, TV2 France and Catalonia TV.
SS3 is a 12-meter double expander with facilities for 20 cameras, 10 VT and 4 EVS machines. Upcoming events include the Opening Ceremony for the Special Olympics Summer Games 2003.
Observe, one of the leading OB facilities in Ireland, currently operates two large OB scanners with support tenders and one small ‘Minicam’ unit. They provide Outside Broadcast requirements for RTE as well as facilities for other broadcasters. This amounts to over 150 events a year, of which more than 95% are live to air.
Observe’s Head of Sound Colm Flynn, said: "SS3 brings the total of units to four and the truck has been designed to be flexible and will cover sports, music and awards shows. We chose the Calrec S2 for reliability, flexibility of routing, input headroom, multiple inputs per channel, and quality of EQ and on-board dynamics. It is very user friendly and after sales service is excellent.
“This is not my first experience of Calrec as I used to work in RTE and have extensive experience on their Q-Series and S-Series console, both of which I have operated many times."
Screen Scene, widely acknowledged to be one of Ireland’s leading postproduction facilities, won when RTE outsourced their OB requirements in December 2001 the contract.
Set up by Screen Scene in June 2002, Observe was established as their OB arm to undertake all the facility's commitments for OB work.
