Easter Eggs...Live!

News Image
Millions of viewers tuned in and logged on to watch Channel 4's Easter Eggs live, which broadcast unique and exclusive footage of animals breaking out of their shell.
Digital media provider Numiko was commissioned by Windfall Films to make www.channel4.com/eggs, which enabled viewers to get up close and personal with Ryan the Gosling, Ant and Duck and Nirvana the Shark, to name but a few.
These creatures and critters became bona fide stars of the animal kingdom through Easter Eggs Live.
Since the website launched on Monday, March 25, more than 300,000 people logged on to discover the weird and wonderful world of eggs for themselves, viewing more than 3 million pages throughout the course of the live streaming.
Numiko’s site was also used to build towards two 60-minute live shows, broadcast on Channel 4 on March 31 and April 1 respectively, with both bringing in a combined audience of millions.
It was the second collaboration between Numiko and Windfall to produce a multi-platform natural history event for Channel 4.
Last year, the trio all worked together on Foxes Live: Wild in the City, now nominated for a BAFTA Television Craft award, which used GPS tracking maps to follow foxes live up and down the country.
Dave Eccles, founding director of Numiko, said: "Easter Eggs Live had everyone talking over the bank holiday weekend and, as we can see from the viewing figures of the broadcasts and the website, millions of people were tuning in.
"We saw the same happen with Foxes Live: Wild in the City, which became Channel 4’s second most successful site ever in terms of traffic and continues to be nominated for award after award.
"Multi-platform approaches like these really are working. They’re drawing audiences in like never before, setting social media abuzz and getting people sharing content before the main broadcasts have even begun.
"People were glued to the live streams of eggs hatching in real time, with most picking their favourite and following its progress. It only helped to build the anticipation.
"And the site is still active now if people want to go back and relive some of their favourite moments.
"It’s a privilege to work with Channel 4 on new and exciting projects like this, and our growing relationship is testament to our hard-work and unwavering dedication."
