US Patent Announced For Aspera's fasp

The creators of the fasp transport technology and software products that moves digital assets at maximum speed, Aspera, Inc., has announced that the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has awarded the company a patent for its fasp bulk data transport protocol.
The patent covers Aspera’s core technology for high-performance transport of bulk data—large files, objects and data sets—over wide area networks (WAN) as a superior alternative to FTP, HTTP and traditional NAS protocols.
The patent further solidifies Aspera’s growing patent portfolio, as the company was awarded similar patents last year from the European Patent Office (EPO) in February and the Japanese Patent Office (JPO) in September.
Aspera’s breakthrough advancements in high-speed transport technology achieve transfer speeds up to thousands of times faster than alternative methods by delivering ideal bandwidth efficiency and precise speed control independent of data size, network delay and packet loss.
Aspera software overcomes the performance bottlenecks faced in applications that transfer, replicate and synchronise large, bulk data over wide area networks, between data storage platforms, as well as public and private clouds, while delivering unprecedented control over bandwidth, complete security and uncompromising reliability.
With fasp at the core, Aspera solutions are seeing accelerated demand across a broad set of industries, use cases and communities ranging from individual professionals and operational business units to global enterprises.
Aspera software powers the global supply chain of digital media content for major broadcasters, studios and online video aggregators.
It enables the collaboration of genomic research scientists and investigators at research institutions around the world, and is now powering the high-speed transfer of digital data in brand advertising, software and hardware engineering, architecture, global manufacturing and electronic legal discovery.
Applications span enterprise networks, scale-out storage, as well as large data transfer to and from the cloud.
"We’ve continued to develop the fasp technology and data transfer platform since our founding in 2004, and we are excited that it has become truly a mission-critical technology in many sectors. This patent is a testament to our commitment to innovate,” said Michelle Munson, Aspera CEO and co-founder.
"Aspera will continue working to create breakthrough solutions that address the fundamental challenges of moving the exploding quantities of digital data over the world’s IP networks, as the problem and opportunity will only continue to grow."
