Tiffen's Reveals 'Busy BVE'

News Image
A manufacturer and supplier of photographic filters and lens accessories has reported success at this years BVE 2010 show, with a constant flow of interested video professionals visiting their stand.
Tiffen International's new range of lighting products and DSLR video proved to be of particular interest.
Lowel Lighting, a new Tiffen product range at BVE, attracted the attention of many visitors. Among the many lights on the stand, it was the brand new Lowel Blender that received special notice. Its light source comprises twin arrays of high CRI (Colour Rendering Index) LEDs to produce light that allows crisp and more naturally coloured pictures. Two rotary controls on the back of the lamphead provide continuous individual adjustment of the daylight and tungsten LED array intensities. The light blends to deliver the right colour to make shots look naturally lit. Producing up to 6708 lux at two feet and weighing 550g the compact Blender light is easy to carry as part of the camera kit.
Among the experts on the stand Carey Duffy of the London Filter Company, a division of Tiffen International, was fully occupied advising about optical filters, matte boxes and camera rigs. He was also demonstrating the Tiffen Dfx filter software that provides a digital representation of Tiffen’s range of over 2000 optical filters – an invaluable tool for previsualisation and assisting in post.
Tiffen was also showing its Steadicam stabilising supports, including those for the expanding DSLR video market. Kevan Parker, Tiffen’s European Sales Manager, commented: "This was a really good show for us. People were taking DSLRs seriously, not just thinking of the lens and camera but the whole rig, with the matte box and filters that are needed to do a professional job.
"They were loading the rigs up to the Steadicam Merlin’s weight limit. Some needed to go up to the Pilot for heavier loads."
He concluded: "We had our technical experts here and it was a tremendous opportunity to go through the details with the visitors. We covered a lot of ground."
