Doremi Masters Cannes

Doremi Cinema is, once again, playing a major role at the Cannes Film Festival.

At this year's 61st festival, Doremi is contributing through its partnership with XDC, the official partner of the Cannes Film Festival.

As the installation of digital cinemas in Europe is now accelerating, so the number of digital movies shown at Cannes has increased. Doremi equipment is heavily involved in both the preparation and exhibition of the 100 digital movies being screened during the 11-day Cannes event - recognised as the most important of its kind in the world.

About half of the digital films screened during Cannes have been digitally processed in the JPEG2000 coding system, as recommended by DCI (Digital Cinema Initiative), using the Doremi DMS-2000 digital mastering stations. These are provided by XDC who are supplying the necessary equipment and expertise with their XDC Digital Content Lab offering producers, filmmakers and distributors conformation of the source material, encoding, encryption and quality controls.

The support extends to digital screenings. Here, five Doremi DCP-2000m the world's most installed DCI JPEG2000 digital cinema player, are in use around the festival.

Patrick Zucchetta, Managing Director of Doremi Cinema Europe, commented: "We are delighted to be supporting XDC at this great festival. We have been involved with digital screenings here since 2003; then it was pioneering with just one movie in 3D ("Ghosts of the Abyss" from James Cameron). The 100 digital movies screening here this year shows the increasing pace of the transition to digital cinema. Now the technology and the business models mean the audience can experience movies in superior quality and even 3D."

Doremi Cinema is a subsidiary of Doremi Labs in Burbank, which specialises in digital cinema.
