Boost For UK Film Production As Colin Brown Is Appointed British Film Commissioner |

The UK Film Council have recently announced the appointment of Colin Brown as British Film Commissioner.
Brown, who recently stepped down as Chairman of Cinesite (Europe) Ltd, is replacing Steve Norris who left the UK Film Council last month after six years to join Framestore as Managing Director of Film. Brown, who has sat on the UK Film Council Board since 2004, has stepped down from the Board with immediate effect.
John Woodward, Chief Executive Officer of the UK Film Council is pleased about the appointment: “We are absolutely delighted to have recruited Colin to take on this key role at this crucial time. He has a deep understanding of the industry and has the benefit of ten years at Cinesite dealing extensively with the US studios.
"His experience will be invaluable in ensuring that the generous new film tax reliefs coming into force next year are promoted internationally and that the UK continues to build further on its enviable reputation as the global hub for film production, second only to Los Angeles.”
Brown is enthusiastic about taking up the role: “I am enormously excited about taking up the post of British Film Commissioner. This role allows me to come back, after a short break, into the very heart of the industry I love. With the onset of the new tax reliefs, there are some fantastic opportunities to capitalise on the UK’s skills, expertise and ability to attract film production and I hope to put my past experience to good use in ensuring that the UK is a first choice location for film productions.”
Brown has spent the last ten years at Cinesite, starting as Managing Director and rising to Chief Executive Officer (with responsibility for major post production entities in both London and Los Angeles) and more recently Chairman. Previous roles include Managing Director, European Television Networks; Managing Director, Molinaire Limited and Executive Vice President, Rank Cintel Inc (USA).

The agency aims to stimulate a successful, vibrant film industry and to promote the widest possible enjoyment and understanding of cinema throughout the UK. The agency's goal is to deliver lasting benefits to the industry and the public through creativity, enterprise and imagination.
