Irish screen professionals have received a prestigious endorsement from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
Presiding over the presentations, Tony Killeen, Irish Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment, awarded certificates to over 180 recipients working in areas such as television direction, sound production and cinematic story development. This strategic partnership between Irish training organisation FÁS and UCLA, world-renowned as the premier training ground for the entertainment industry in Los Angeles, ensures that training undertaken by participants on FÁS Screen Training Ireland programmes will be recognised internationally. Speaking at the awards ceremony in Dublin, the Minister said: “A substantial and vibrant Irish film and television industry is critical to the full realisation of Ireland's cultural and economic potential. During the last decade, with positive state support, the foundations for a strong industry have been established in Ireland.” FÁS Screen Training Ireland, based in the industry division of FÁS, has been providing training and development programmes for professionals in film and television since 1995 and is the only organisation in the world to have such an agreement with UCLA.
