CHANNEL 4 COMMISSIONING EDITOR APPOINTED

JULIAN Bellamy has been promoted to Commissioning Editor with Channel 4’s factual group to strengthen and increase output from companies outside London.

Julian Bellamy (30), currently Deputy Commissioning Editor for News & Current Affairs, will join the Nations & Regions team, replacing Alan Hayling who recently left to join Mentorn Barraclough Carey (MBC) Productions as a producer.

With a dual base in Channel 4’s Glasgow office, and in London, Bellamy will report to Head of Programmes (Nations & Regions), Stuart Cosgrove. He will take over established strands ringfenced for producers outside London, including Public Enemy Number One, which airs later this year, and the successful Football Stories, which has been re-commissioned for a third series and is currently one of Channel 4’s highest rating factual programmes.

Amongst his key priorities, Bellamy will be seeking new, popular factual programmes and series from within the nations and regions and will build on the success of Channel 4’s increased regional commissions.

Bellamy will complete an internal attachment to Big Brother 2, and maintain responsibility for the Mark Thomas Product and a new undercover investigation series currently being produced by RDF North in Manchester. He will join the Nations and Regions team full-time in August.

Before joining Channel 4 three years ago, Bellamy was a producer and director at Twenty Twenty Television on programmes such as ITV’s Big Story and on Dispatches and World in Action.

Stuart Cosgrove said: “Julian is a successful and popular editor at Channel 4. He already knows the commissioning system well and has the respect of producers. He will make a real difference to the Nations & Regions team, bringing a fresh perspective, new enthusiasm and a popular journalistic approach.”
