IFTA Nomination For Short

A Dublin animation company has been nominated for an Irish Film & Television Awards (IFTA).

These are open to all talented craftspeople people in Ireland, as well as those working in the international arena with the nomination going to Kavaleer's short film Hasan Everywhere.

Kavaleer's film details the friendship between an Israeli novelist (Dorit Rabinyan) and a Palestinian artist (Hasan Hourani) from their first meeting in New York in the winter of 2002 to 6th August 2003, when Hasan tragically drowned near the Port of Jaffa.

The film is inspired by Dorit's eulogy to Hasan, The Exile's Return, which was published in the Guardian in 2003 and Hasan's own unfinished children's book, the eponymous, Hasan Everywhere.

Kavaleer Productions, a high-end animation production studio based in The Digital Hub - an Irish Government initiative to create an international centre of excellence for knowledge, innovation and creativity focused on digital content and technology enterprises - make TV shows and provide a full service for animation.

Their film has been already screened at the Corona Cork Film Festival, the IFI, and has been nominated for a Digital Media Award in the Best Use of Film or Animation category, as well as in the animation category of the 7th Annual IFTA Awards.

The IFTA award ceremony will take place on February 20th.
