'Kasting' makes the cut in short film competition

First time horror director Alyosha Saari of London is the £5000 winner of the Zone Horror CUT! Short Film Competition.

Saari’s winning entry, 'Kasting', will be shown at a special August 26 screening of the top ten CUT! finalists at the Zone Horror FrightFest, one of the biggest thriller, sci-fi, fantasy and horror film festival in the UK.

Made on a budget of £100, Kasting stars Monica Bertei as an actress auditioning for a part to die for.

An elite panel of judges viewed more than 200 CUT! entries including 'Grudge' and 'Evil Dead' producer Rob Tapert, Troma film director Lloyd Kaufman and the FrightFest’s Alan Jones.

Rob Tapert said: “Kasting showed a director with extreme and assured mastery of his craft. The movie was shot with a real director's eye, hauntingly acted, and a very suspenseful linear storyline."

Zone Horror, in association with FrightFest and Ghost House Mobile, launched the two minute short horror film competition this year, giving budding filmmakers an opportunity to get ahead in the horror business.

Tanya Gugenheim, Zonemedia’s Chief Business Development and New Media Officer added: “Fostering new talent is a proud Horror tradition. Zone Horror is delighted to be able to provide a platform to showcase the work of these talented newcomers. We were incredibly impressed with the quality and originality of the films that made the final cut and know that our viewers and mobile customers will be too.”

Zone Horror will broadcast the top ten films as part of its Halloween programming in October.
