Scottish actor to unveil new gravestone |
|
Mick Southworth, CEO of The Works UK Distribution, today announced that Scottish actor James Cosmo is to unveil a new gravestone in Greyfriars Kirkyard at 10.30am on February 2.
The gravestone is a memorial for James Brown, former sexton of Greyfriars, who tended the kirkyard during the time that Greyfriars Bobby was in residence. James Brown died in 1868, and although he is buried in the Kirkyard, he was never given a gravestone.
James Cosmo, who most recently starred in 'The Chronicles of Narnia’, plays the character of James Brown in the highly anticipated new film about Edinburgh’s favourite dog. Entitled ‘The Adventures of Greyfriars Bobby’, the film premieres in Edinburgh on 7 February and is released in cinemas on 10 February.
Mick Southworth said: ‘We are delighted that our association with this film has enabled us to honour another member of Bobby’s adopted family at Greyfriars Kirk. Both John Gray’s and Bobby’s gravestones have attracted many visitors to the Kirk over the years, and as one of Bobby’s key carers following the death of his master, it is only fitting that James Brown should be given his place in history alongside his old friends."
The Edinburgh Council approved the placing of the memorial, which was commissioned by The Works UK Distribution and carved by master stonemason, Ian Newton.
