New Broadcast Products From Denon & Marantz Professional At SBES

DMi D&M Installation is showcasing its continuing commitment to innovation in the professional broadcast sector with new products from its Denon Professional and Marantz Professional brands; with a new addition to the market leading Marantz PMD range of solidstate recorders and a fully professional, cost competitive CD player.
The Denon Professional DN-C620 incorporates all of the features required by today's most demanding broadcast facilities, including auto cue, instant start, fader start control and index tallying.
The slot-in CD mechanism reads CD-DA audio data from CD and CD-R/RW discs, with decoding of .cda, .wav and .mp3 files from CD-R/RW discs. The broadcast-grade drive boots up almost instantly; time taken to 'read and ready to play' all supported media is significantly faster than with consumer based CD drives.
The professional playback feature set includes Instant Start, Auto CUE, frame accurate search capability, user-definable quick replay and +/- 12% pitch control. The advanced playback features include a Finish mode function, with a selectable preset option of either Stop/Cue of the following track, or Recue of the current track, when the unit is in single play mode. The IR remote control enables programmed playback of up to 99 tracks or audio files. A new shift menu function enhances front panel and remote handset control access.
RS-232 control provides for integration with third part serial control systems and can output ISRC and POS codes from commercial CD releases, as well as CD-Text and ID-3 tag information.
A 25-pin GPIO parallel control port facilitates full integration within broadcast systems, including fader start functionality. An additional IR Flash input (back-panel mounted, 1/8" connector) enables basic wired control functions including Play, Pause, Cue, FWD, FF, Skipback, Track Jump, +/- pitch control and Stop.
A full component of audio outputs includes balanced analogue outs on XLR with trim control and fixed and variable level unbalanced outputs on phono (RCA) connectors. Digital outputs are provided on both XLR and coaxial/SPDIF connectors.
The PMD661 is the latest model in the range of highly successful Marantz Professional PMD solidstate recorder. A robust and versatile professional handheld PCM/MP3 recorder, the PMD661 supersedes the hugely popular PMD660, offering an improved form factor, a superior feature set, and the use of SD flash media.
Major new design innovations include a significantly smaller footprint than the PMD660 and an improved top facia layout with fewer buttons and more highly developed use of multi-functional operation. Measuring just 165 x 93 x 36 mm (6.5" x 3.7" x 1.4"), it is a third smaller than the PMD660 which, combined with the improved control layout, it ensures comprehensive single-handed operation.
The new feature set includes an integrated high quality stereo condenser microphone array for 'point and shoot' operation and a highly visible 128 x 64 dots matrix OLED (organic LED) display.
Improving further on the specifications of the PMD660, the PMD661 features both balanced mic and balanced line XLR inputs, as well as unbalanced line outs on RCA connectors and a secondary unbalanced line in on 3.5 mm mini jack connector. Also included for the first time at this price point within the Marantz range is a high resolution 24-bit/96kHz recording option (PCM).
In another first, Marantz Professional has bundled its Mark Editor software FOC. PMD Mark Editor allows the market points made on the recoded file to be adjusted post-recording and a new file created, meaning basic editing can be carried out on a handy PC or laptop and files posted for immediate distribution.
The PMD661 utilises SD flash media, the most widely available and fastest developing flash memory format. Compatibility with SDHC media means that cards currently up to 32 GB in size can be used. High capacity media storage is matched by over eight hours recording time from four AA Alkaline/Ni-MH batteries. Drag and drop file transfer is supported via the USB 2.0 port.
