Ianiro UK Helps Leeds West City Learning Centre Install High-Tech Lighting Rig

Ianiro UK, which specialises in camera and lighting support systems, has helped Leeds West City Learning Centre install a new, high-tech lighting rig in its TV and photographic studio.
Leeds City Learning Centres are a network of four school-based centres providing state-of-the-art ITC-based learning opportunities for Leeds and the surrounding community. As an integral part of the Education Leeds school improvement team, the Learning Centres offer a challenging programme of activities for students of all ages, as well as training for teachers. They are a key element of the Excellence in Cities (EiC) programme, facilitated by the Department of Education and Skills, and are actively involved in raising standards in education through the innovative use of technology.
Leeds West City Learning Centre provides resources for students from all schools in the west of the city and collaborates with local community groups and business enterprises to enhance learning opportunities. The centre is on a split site with facilities based at both Wortley High School and West Leeds High School, which is where the television and photographic studio is located. This site also has a music studio with digital recording equipment, a computer suite, a Cybercafe, video editing facilities and a fully equipped CAD/CAM workshop.
The new lighting rig was specified by Tom Yau, Technical Officer at the Leeds West Learning Centre and the equipment was ordered through Planet PC. It includes Solaris Fresnel 1650 650W lights, an IKAN S200D 110W Cool Light with DMX, an IKAN S400D 200W Cool Light with DMX and an LC2412 24-channel DMX lighting desk. The installation, which took place at the end of 2007, was carried out by Ianiro UK’s technical staff.
The rig is split into two, with one part designed for TV and video work and the other for photography. It enables Learning Centre staff to establish work place simulations and allows students to use the equipment for the advertising, film and TV projects that form part of their diploma studies.
Ianiro UK is the UK distributor for all Ianiro products and the European distributor for Libec. Its range also includes ABC Cranes and Dollies, Luggy bags and cases, Kupo grip equipment and California Sunbounce light reflection systems.
Nick Allen Miles, managing director of Ianiro UK, said: "Ianiro as a company has, over many years, undertaken project work for film, theatre and studio worldwide. The Leeds CLC Project is one of our first Education projects in this country and we look forward to expanding our position in the area."
