Visual Voodoo Wins 'Inspector Morse's Musical Mystery Tour' For ITV3

ITN’s factual entertainment arm, Visual Voodoo, has won its first commission for ITV3.
‘Inspector Morse’s Musical Mystery Tour’ will look at how classic scenes of nail-biting drama and classical music were combined to create hugely popular and powerful television.
The 60-minute programme will feature footage from the show and in-depth interviews with the series’ composer, Barrington Pheloung, as well as its writers, directors and stars.
While many TV shows have compelling theme tunes, what’s unique about Morse is the central importance of the music to every second of airtime. With a combination of his own special compositions and re-orchestrated classics, Barrington Phelong produces nothing less than an entire symphonic soundtrack for every episode. The music conjuring the pomp of Oxford colleges, the dissonance between Town and Gown, the sophisticated plots featuring genteel characters who turn out to lie, deceive, blackmail and murder.
And, of course, the music defines Morse himself, his instincts, prejudices, moods, inner demons, relationships with women, and eternal ambivalence about work, home, love and life itself – all brilliantly conveyed through eerie motifs, subtle sound effects and brutal symphonic assaults.
The programme is commissioned by Matthew Littleford and is executive produced by Head of Visual Voodoo, Tony Moss and Programme Director Grainne Jordan.
Visual Voodoo recently produced the ‘IFComeddies’ for ITV2 and the 8 part series ‘Help Your Self’ with Angus Deayton on ITV1 earlier this year.
