Call For Entries For Maysles Brothers Documentary Award And The Jameson Short Film Competition

2006 was the inaugural year of the Maysles Brothers documentary competition, established in association with Maysles Films, in honour of David and Albert Maysles' innovative work in documentary filmmaking.
Competition was intense with 'Enron: The Smartest Guys In The Room', 'Bloody Sunday: A Derry Diary' and 'Unknown White Male' among the titles selected. The first winner of the Maysles Brothers award was the widely respected documentarian Kim Longinotto and her film 'Sisters in Law'.
The Belfast Film Festival’s Maysles Brothers Documentary Competition seeks to promote excellence and innovation in documentary filmmaking. All forms of documentary are welcome, of various duration and style, but selection will stress a particular interest in feature length and observational documentaries informed by the Maysles Brothers' work. The Festival is now welcoming entries to be considered for the second programme of this prestigious competition.
The 2007 Jameson Short Film Competition in association with Kodak is also calling for entries for next year’s competition. The 2006 competition winner was The Secret Language directed by Brian Durnin of Fastnet Films. The judging panel also commended 'Testing Time', 'Teddy Boy' directed by Kevin McCann and 'Horn OK Please', an animated film directed by Joel Simon from Flickerpix in Belfast.
The deadline for submissions to both competitions is Wednesday December 6 and submission forms can be downloaded from the festival website at: www.belfastfilmfestival.org
