Fremantle Oversees DangerMouse's Return To British TV
Fremantle International Distribution (FID) have announced a deal which will see the iconic, animated superhero, DangerMouse, make a celebratory return to British terrestrial television.
In the lead up to the mighty mouse’s 25th anniversary next month, the BBC has acquired 18 x 25 minute episodes of the animated classic, along with the first two series of the 15 minute version of the popular programme. The series are scheduled to air on BBC Daytime.
Carol Eymery, Vice President Sales, French Speaking Territories, UK, Ireland, Italy & Africa, FID, brokered the deal and commented: “We are thrilled to celebrate such an important milestone for DangerMouse, and look forward to seeing this witty, cult classic back on our screens. 25 years on, the programme still holds the same wide appeal it always has for the whole family, who can enjoy the exploits of this homegrown superhero together.”
DangerMouse ranked as the third most popular kids’ show in Channel 4's 100 Greatest Kids’ TV Shows, which was voted for by the general public and transmitted last August.
Originally created and produced by Cosgrove Hall, DangerMouse, the secret agent mouse, and his trusty, bumbling sidekick, Penfold, first hit TV screens on ITV1 in the UK in 1981. The show ranked number one in its time slot with average audiences of 3.5 million viewers. It outperformed both its slot average and competing children's programming across all target groups, achieving on average 90% higher audience share for 4-15-year-olds. DangerMouse has aired in over 80 countries worldwide including Australia, India, Romania, Trinidad and Zambia.
The festivities surrounding DangerMouse’s 25th anniversary in September will be fully supported by FremantleMedia Enterprises (FME), which comprises of FID, FremantleMedia Licensing Worldwide and Fremantle Home Entertainment.
