DK announces range of exciting new products for IBC 2006

DK-Technologies will be using the IBC 2006 platform to unveil a number of new metering products, including new video display technology that is set to transform taditional waveform monitoring.
DK’s Spinner, which takes its name from the shape of the hand spindles that have been used to produce thread and yarn for centuries, is so intuitive and easy to read that anyone involved in video recording or post production will immediately be able to see and understand exactly what is happening with their video signal.
Spinner is optimised to provide video professionals with usable information to align video cameras and to monitor video production. In the post production environment, the display constantly monitors the video signal and supports the operator in optimising programme material and keeping his video material within the technical limits of the video signal.
DK is aiming to have a full production version of a Video Meter incorporating the new Spinner display ready in time for IBC. This single instrument will combine the monitoring of both video and audio and will be prepared for HD as well as SD-SDI video signals. The audio part will allow surround sound monitoring using the proprietary JellyFish display, which has already revolutionised audio monitoring to the extent that it has now become an industry standard.
At IBC, DK will also be showing the PT8612 HD-SD Test Signal Generator, a new option for the PT5300 HD-SD VariTime Sync Generator that offers a test pattern to check Lip-Sync.
An easy to use solution to check the lip-sync behaviour of a transmission path is something that industry has been seeking for a long time because, as all broadcasters know, out of sync promgramming is very irritating and distracting for viewers.
DK believes that its new PT8612 HD-SD Test Signal Generator is the solution the industry has been demanding. It outputs 4 independent test signals in 270 and 1,485 Mbit/sec SDI formats with individual formats and timing. The test pattern is based on the EBU Tech 3305 standard and extended to all common HD formats. The HD formats include 1080 and 720 lines progressive and interlaced as well as frame rates of 24, 25, 29.97, 30, 50, 59.94, and 60 Hz.
Besides the Lip-Sync test pattern, which contains moving elements to detect frozen pictures, the generator board also includes common test signals such as colour bars, monitor test signals, PLUGE and SDI check field. The test signals may be superimposed with a text for identification, and contain embedded audio signal. The generator is prepared for “Dual-Link” systems by combining two of the outputs to carry one signal.
