PostWorks New York selects FOR-A HANABI 1 for DI theatre project

PostWorks New York has selected FOR-A’s new one mix/effect HANABI HVS-1000HS digital switcher for its recently opened digital intermediate (DI) theatre.
The DI theatre officially opened in October and has already completed digital mastering for several commercial and long-form television and feature film projects. It is the first theatre on the east coast designed specifically for DI mastering.
Digital intermediate is the replacement of film’s final optical processing with a digital master. Colour correction, titles, and visual effects can be pre-visualised in real-time and changed instantly. A finished 2K master can be output to film or any format in multiple resolutions, frame-rates and aspect ratios.
The HANABI switcher is a critical part of PostWork’s ground-breaking DI theatre. The HANABI supports 1080I/59.94, 1080P/23.98, 720P/59.94, among other major HD as well as SD formats. At a compact 2RU and cost-efficient price point, the SD/HD switchable, multi-bit, multi-format HANABI is ideal for postproduction applications. And an internal DVE card comes pre-installed.
"The reason we went with this particular solution for our DI Theatre is because of its compact size and power,” explained Bertrand Hilaire, Chief Engineer, PostWorks New York. “It's one little switcher that has a very small, 2RU footprint in our machine room, and it's capable of doing both standard definition and all the flavours of high-definition that we currently do."
The switcher’s internal DVE has already proved invaluable for PostWorks. “We can reposition the image so that the framing the DP intended is accurately reflected,” said Billy Baldwin, President of PostWorks New York. “We’re able to get the closest possible representation of the final end product in our DI theatre thanks to tools like FOR-A’s HANABI switcher. And this is make or break when you’re working with oversized canvases like a 2K master file.”
