The Pixel Farm announce digital film play and conform system: PFPlay version 1.0
The Pixel Farm has announced a cost effective digital film production review and conform system designed for OS X and Linux.
Hailed as a first, PFPlay V1.0 is an advanced, resolution independent, software based, digital daily and production review system for Mac OS X and Linux. The system provides a cost effective disc based play back and review solution for departmental, facility wide and daily review cinema implementation. Working closely with Apple to offer a highly optimised solution, The Pixel Farm has produced a desktop system for film review at a fraction of the cost of systems on other platforms.
PFPlay enables users to conform digital film images stored throughout a facility using the actual film edit timeline, over the network. This dramatically speeds up the review and approval process, removing the need to double hand footage, and allows anyone involved in the post production environment to review work in context. PFPlay uses the open XML file standard to import the EDL from Apple’s Final Cut Pro and will offer support for other EDL formats such as CMX3600 and AAF via a plug-ins.
PFPlay locates the high-resolution clips and then builds up the timeline as a background process, prior to playback. Simple edit tools are also provided to modify or build timelines. Batch processing and advanced media management tools, including clip history, media linking and full cross platform support for file systems.
PFPlay makes extensive use of 3D Look Up Tables (3D LUTs) to pre-visualise the film in the final output medium.
Pixel Farm claim that PFPlay offers significant time and cost saving benefits for anyone working with Digital Intermediates, special effects and HD video - from the creation of dailies, through to first edits, pre visualising of special effects to visualisation of an entire film.
PFPlay can drive projectors in the review theatre for directorial approval, team review and shot analysis, removing the need for printing to film and developing positives simply to check edits, colour and SFX.
Fully optimised for Mac OSX and built for the G5, PFPlay is a cost effective solution for viewing 2Kdigital dailies.
