DPA Unveils 6388 CORE+ Headset Microphone With Shifted Acoustical Axis

DPA Microphones has introduced the 6388 CORE+ Headset Microphone, a high-performance supercardioid model designed for challenging live scenarios where clarity, feedback control and ease of use are essential. A physically asymmetrical capsule with a shifted acoustical axis, combined with a tightly controlled proximity effect, means the mic is less sensitive to exact placement and maintains consistent sound quality even if repositioned during a performance. Incorporating DPA’s patent-pending CORE+ technology, the new headset will be unveiled at IBC 2026 (Hall 8, Stand D60).

Building on the legacy of the 4088 Directional Capsule, the 6388 CORE+ advances performance with greater feedback rejection, improved intelligibility and more reliable results in real-world conditions. It aims to balance natural, authentic audio with strong isolation, making it well suited to theatre and live productions, broadcast and sports, houses of worship, and corporate presentations or conferences.

Unlike traditional directional headsets, the 6388 CORE+ offers switchable boom placement (left or right). Together with the asymmetrical capsule and shifted acoustical axis, this enables discreet positioning beside or slightly behind the mouth, enhancing aesthetics and reducing plosives and noise without affecting tonal accuracy for outstanding speech intelligibility in complex acoustic spaces.

The microphone maintains consistent directionality across the frequency range, providing predictable linear off-axis rejection and a stable tonal balance for natural reproduction. This supports superior isolation, reduced stage bleed and markedly improved gain-before-feedback, which is advantageous on loud stages. A wide dynamic range accommodates both soft and powerful vocal delivery, while the forgiving design helps professionals and volunteers achieve dependable, high-quality results quickly.
