The Best Disaster Recovery Service Is One You've Never Noticed – GB Labs CloakDR

News Image
When disaster strikes, it is already too late to talk about disaster recovery.

And we're not necessarily talking just about natural disasters; power cuts, fires, disk failures, and operating system calamities, but the bigger issues too, including rack power outages, the accidental removal of network or power cabling, switch failures and even a complete server room outage. Whatever the circumstances such events can result in a catastrophic loss of valuable content – and precious revenue - in the process, especially when it comes to shared storage and archive systems.

So why is it that failover tends to be overlooked, or at least given less attention when talking about total system requirements when it’s actually one of, if not the most crucial components for guaranteeing business continuity?

GB Labs knows it's vital to have no single point of failure, which is why it developed CloakDR, which does exactly what the name implies. It surrounds a system with an impenetrable, protective disaster recovery cloak that offers true, demonstrable resilience and redundancy.

And "resilient" doesn't mean CloakDR will "do its best" in an emergency. GB Labs designed and built CloakDR to provide "real", no compromise redundancy by enabling dual systems to act as both master and slave. GB Labs can do this because, unlike traditional systems, the storage is 100% live. Data written to it is not confirmed until both slave and master have it, which makes it impossible to be out-of-sync.

What that means is that if the master suddenly vanishes for any reason, CloakDR ensures that the slave takes over with exactly the same IP address and paths as the master in as little as two seconds. Barely even noticeable.

Yes, other systems can recover from the unexpected, but it's usually a lengthy, painful, and often very expensive process, which still doesn't take into consideration the loss of revenue due to downtime, or the loss of precious content, which can takes hours, days, even weeks to recover,(if it is recoverable at all), as operators scramble to reboot workstations or reconnect and repopulate volumes.

It is patently obvious that such a scenario fits no acceptable definition of a DR “solution”. More like a DR continuation.

But in CloakDR, GB Labs provides what is expected in terms of true redundancy, and that's resilience, speed, and most importantly, confidence. One such organisation that recently had exactly those expectations met was GMA in the Philippines. CloakDR impressed GMA early, at the proof-of-concept stage, when they quickly said, "We have got to have this", which is a sentence now frequently heard worldwide once GB Labs demonstrates the security CloakDR provides.

So, the more you have, the more you have to lose. But there's no longer any need to lose anything when the worst happens, so long as you’re protected by CloakDR in your facility or on the go. CloakDR's automatic failover keeps a business running seamlessly, providing the ultimate in business continuity and, most importantly, peace of mind.
