Voice of the Listener & Viewer announces conference dates

The Voice of the Listener & Viewer (VLV) will provide three opportunities in March, April and May for members of the public to hear and question at first hand some of the most influential figures in British broadcasting on their future policies and plans.
On Thursday March 21, the organisation will hold its VLV’s 18th Spring conference entitled 'Broadcasting to the Nations and the English Regions’ between 11am-4.30pm at Hamilton House, Mabledon Place, London WC1.
The event will see a discussion on ‘The Future for the Regions’ and will feature a panel of three leading market professionals: Roger Laughton, Head of the Bournemouth School of Media Arts & Communications; Olwen Hocking, Head of Regional & Local Programmes, BBC North East & Cumbria; Professor Sylvia Harvey, Centre for Film & Television Studies at Sheffield Hallam University.
BBC newsreader Michael Buerk will then present the 2001 VLV Awards for Excellence in Broadcasting, sponsored by the Voice of the Listener Trust.
Gavyn Davies, BBC Chairman, and Jocelyn Hay, VLV chairman, will conclude the event with a talk on 'The Future Role and Governance of the BBC'.
On April 24-26, the VLV will hold its eighth International Conference called ‘Terrorism, Trade and Truth – the role and responsibilities of the broadcasters in times of rapid political, economic and technological change’ at The Royal Society of Arts, the Strand, London WC2. The conference will be opened by Baroness Blackstone, Minister for the Arts.
On Tuesday 14 May the VLV Westminster Evening Seminar on the new Communications Bill will take place between 6pm and 7.30pm at the Palace of Westminster, London SW1. The Rt Hon Tessa Jowell, Secretary of State for Culture, Media & Sport will speak and take questions as will Jocelyn Hay.
The VLV chairman said: "Voice of the Listener & Viewer, which represents the citizen and consumer interests in broadcasting, will provide a unique and neutral forum through these and similar events where everyone with an interest in broadcasting can meet on equal terms. We expect high attendances at all events and some lively questioning."
