S&W to hold digital cinema encoding workshop at IBC

IBC 2003 organisers have installed a digital cinema system in the main auditorium at the RAI Centre, which Snell & Wilcox have hired for Friday September 12 from noon to 13.00 to stage a commercial tutorial on the process of MPEG encoding as related to digital and electronic cinema.
Multiple markets require multiple versions containing different content (censor versions), differing subtitles or different languages. While real time processing may not be important in post - marketing deadlines make processing essential for cinema distribution.
The demonstration will show real time encoding of film-originated HDTV, 24P originated and regular HDTV content at a variety of bit rates.
The mastering station will use the EVS "Alpha" server with an embedded Snell & Wilcox "G2" encoder to demonstrate real time encoding of Hollywood-style material at high bit rate. It will also demonstrate long-GOP encoding of a typical European style production and long-GOP encoding of a pseudo-live HDTV broadcast, all while keeping within practically available transmission bit rates.
The encoded material will be decoded live onto the auditorium's big screen using an EVS decoder.
