Singapore's MediaCorp News Turns To EVS For General Elections Coverage

MediaCorp PLT chose EVS' digital production technology to broadcast Singapore's recent election.
Singapore's leading media company covers a wide range of platforms including TV, radio, magazines, movies and digital out-of-home media.
MediaCorp News owns Channel NewsAsia, Channels 5 and 8, Suria and Vasantham. The broadcast company produces news, current affairs, documentary programmes and airs reality TV and talk shows.
For the May 7th coverage of both Nomination and Polling day of the Singapore's 16th parliamentary election, MediaCorp confirmed its trust in EVS, a leading provider of live production systems, for the entire newsgathering and production workflow to replace existing non-live technology currently used in their newsroom facilities.
The news production solution dedicated to the elections comprised and extended the range of EVS systems covering all aspects of the workflow. All gathered newsfeeds and files were centralised onto an extensive range of seven XT/XS series servers configured for online storage while guaranteeing instant access to browsing, editing and playout operations supported by the advanced dual SDTI and GigE network.
Kelvin Ma, VP, TV & Post Production Enterprises, said: "Our preference for an EVS setup was clearly dictated by our priority to have a highly reliable system allowing us to streamline a live operational workflow. EVS' expertise in live operations and in-depth reliability of its production systems made it the obvious choice for such an important and challenging enterprise."
Combined with XT & XS series servers, IPDirector offered comprehensive central media management to all journalists and editors who covered the election. EVS' content production management system allowed the broadcasting crew to brosw through hours of gathered content, manage rough-cut footage and transfer footage to Avid editors. The IPDirector was also operated by MediaCorp news production teams to air the production playlist and programme packages received from edit suites.
Based on the system's advanced HI/LO resolution configuration, the entire production process was managed in low resolution with instant hires edit consolidation available for playout. MediaCorp has continuously reinforced their trust in EVS over a few years. The broadcast and media company recently acquired new XT2+ systems for live OB operations.
Oliver Heurteaux, General Sales Manager Asia & Pacific at EVS said: "We are proud of the market of trust expressed by MediaCorp for choosing EVS systems to cover such an important oriented event. EVS' news production workflow is probably the most comprehensive and competitive solution, as it offers the optimum combination of a live-oriented broadcast and IT-based technology while focusing on production efficiency and content availability.
EVS will present its latest news production solutions at the Broadcast Asia exhibition, from June 21 to 24, 2011.
