Tyrell CCT Delivers Trinity College Digital Infrastructure

A leading provider of creative technology solutions for the broadcast, post production, corporate and education markets, Tyrell CCT, has announced the company has delivered a sophisticated digital infrastructure to Trinity College Dublin (TCD) for its new Arts Technology Research Laboratory (ATRL) facility.
ATRL is opening its doors in mid-September for the first intake of post-graduate students in Digital Arts Technologies. Tyrell CCT had responsibility for the specification and delivery of the superior video, sound and audio-visual technologies that comprise ATRL's multi-use high-tech performance theatre, post-production suites, sound recording and media labs.
The overall solution provided by Tyrell CCT is based on a totally flexible design and includes leading video editing systems from Avid and Apple, Digidesign's award-winning Pro Tools HD audio post-production system, professional recording and camera equipment and Apple MacPro computers for the lecture rooms and media labs.
The ATRL is an interdisciplinary, postgraduate research centre of the School of Drama, Film and Music at Trinity College, Dublin, designed to explore the emergent fields of creative art practice and new technologies. The ATRL will offer a structured PhD Programme in Digital Arts Technologies to train artists, scholars, computer scientists and engineers in digital art production whether that is in performance, film and video, music, or installation and live art. Following a detailed tender process and in-depth consultations with Tyrell CCT's specialist education team, the company was selected to specify, supply and install the entire digital technology infrastructure for the facility, which comprises 650 square metres on two levels of the Trinity Technology and Enterprise Campus.
A multi-purpose, multi-media theatre and auditorium takes centre stage in this impressive facility. The theatre was designed with operational flexibility in mind and already has a variety of functions including an 85-seat lecture theatre and auditorium area, a performance and recording space, a HD cinema and a TV Studio. ATRL also houses two post-production editing suites, a recording studio and a seminar room.
The post-production suites are equipped with high specification Apple Final Cut Pro editing solutions as well as high-end Avid Symphony Nitris finishing system. Tyrell CCT also provided TCD with three Pro Tools HD audio post-production systems from Digidesign and over 20 high-performance Apple Mac Pro computers, enabling students to create and edit material using multiple software platforms. A wide range of professional video and sound recording equipment from world-leading manufacturers was also installed including, Canon HDV video cameras, Panasonic projectors and Meyer Sound theatre speakers. In addition, Tyrell CCT provided consultancy and product training for the advanced professional solutions and TCD has contracted the company to provide full technical support services for this dynamic facility.
Matthew Causey, Director of the Arts Technology Research Laboratory, said: "We had a very ambitious vision for ATRL, where advanced digital technology would be a core element of the facility, enabling our students to deliver pioneering creative art practices. Tyrell CCT demonstrated a clear understanding of our requirements and designed a solution that encompasses the latest digital technologies for film, music, visual arts and new media projects. Close engagement with Tyrell CCT throughout the project ensured that the solution was delivered on time and to budget - we are extremely satisfied with the end result."
Bryan Malone, Managing Director, Tyrell CCT, said: "The ATRL is an outstanding achievement and places Trinity College Dublin at the forefront of digital technology not only in Ireland, but across Europe. Tyrell CCT is delighted to have played an important part in this innovative project which provides students with excellent opportunities to work with the most advanced creative and digital technologies currently available. Tyrell CCT's relationship with leading industry manufacturers was key in sourcing optimum technologies for ATRL and allowed us to combine best-of-breed solutions for the entire facility."
