SysMedia win major subtitling technology partnership

VIDSubtitling, part of a major Hollywood entertainment group, has selected SysMedia's WinCAPS Multimedia software as platform of choice for the preparation of multilingual subtitling covering Line 21 closed-captioning, EBU teletext subtitling, DVD/DVB subtitling and Open Captioning.
The initial order, including a number of WinCAPS Multimedia software licences, is spread between VIDSubtitling's London, Los Angeles and Montreal preparation suites, with further expansion planned for Singapore and the Far East.
VIDSubtitling will also be the first company to adopt IPV's FMA Internet video streaming as a means of worldwide media distribution for subtitling. The addition of FMA Internet video streaming to WinCAPS Multimedia allows browse-quality video to be imported into WinCAPS over a standard internet connection. FMA provides instant access to any point in the video file, enabling users to view a low bandwidth picture with good quality audio almost immediately. If the video is paused, the current frame is quickly enhanced to the maximum quality available, whilst the picture quality of the rest of the video improves gradually. Users have rapid access to every frame of the source file, regardless of file length or frame location.
SysMedia's new DVD Builder software is an application for creating DVD subtitle assets in the multiple formats used by DVD authoring systems. Offering configuration flexibility and high productivity, DVD Builder allows users to tailor each DVD format to their requirements, identifying the output by a particular DVD authoring system or by client name. At build time, DVD Builder can be used in an automated batch mode, creating DVD subtitle assets for a whole list of movies and languages.
Jonathan Lewis, Managing Director of VIDSubtitling UK, said that FMA was one of many factors influencing the choice of supplier: "We undertook a lengthy evaluation before deciding on WinCAPS Multimedia. Amongst the deciding factors were the product's feature-rich user interface, accurate DVD subtitle production and an extensive range of subtitle file formats in a wide range of languages. SysMedia's customer support was also important."
SysMedia specialises in systems for enhanced broadcasting and customers include the BBC, BSkyB, Teletext Ltd, Eurosport, NOS, CNN and the Modern Times Group.
IPV develops, markets and licenses its technology products in component form specifically for the management and browsing of video over any network, including the internet.
In 1998, IPV launched SpectreView, the world's first professional shadow browsing system to feature full frame and timecode accuracy.
