Top London Advisor Appointed Chairman Of Barcud Derwen

A top London businesswoman has been appointed Group Chairman of Barcud Derwen, the UK's largest television and film facilities company outside London.
West Wales-born Dr Carol Bell, 50, whose high profile career has been in the oil and gas industry and investment banking, succeeds Emlyn Davies, who retires after ten years in the role.
The appointment of Dr Bell, who is a frequent broadcaster in Welsh on the finance and oil and gas industries, is a major boost for Barcud Derwen and its 12 subsidiary companies. Her wealth of executive and financial management expertise will enable the Cardiff-based company to build and expand on its current businesses.
Dr Bell has held a number of key posts in the banking sector, including Managing Director of the Global Oil & Gas Group, at Chase Manhattan Bank, and Head of European Equity Research at JP Morgan.
As well as undertaking the role of Group Chairman for Barcud Derwen, Dr Bell will continue with a number of existing appointments, notably as Senior Advisor on oil and gas to Europa Partners, an independent corporate finance advisory firm, a non-executive director of Hardy Oil and Gas plc and a member of the Investment Advisory Committee of Gemini Oil and Gas, a private investment fund for oil and gas development projects. She also chairs Girton College, Cambridge's Investment Committee and is Honorary Treasurer of the British School at Athens.
Dr Bell was educated at Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera, before reading for an MA in Natural Sciences (Biochemistry) at Girton College, Cambridge. She gained her PhD from the Institute of Archaeology, University College London and participates in archaeological projects in Libya and Cyprus, specialising in the study of ancient trade. She is married and lives in Marylebone, London.
Speaking about her appointment at Barcud Derwen, Dr Bell said: "I am delighted to have the chance to work in Wales with Barcud Derwen and look forward to being part of the team as we respond to new opportunities and emerging technologies.
"My expertise lies in financial analysis and identifying, and responding to, structural changes in businesses.
"I very much hope my experience will prove beneficial at this time of both change and opportunity in the broadcasting industry."
Emlyn Davies, retiring Group Chairman, commented: "After ten happy years of working together, the time is right for me to step down as chairman to enable a fresh perspective and vision to take Barcud Derwen into the next decade. Dr Carol Bell has earned herself a reputation as an astute businessperson who has made her mark in the City and who is held in high esteem throughout the world as an expert in the oil and gas industry. She has a broad range of interests, is a reputed academic in the field of archaeology and is generous in her support of educational organisations. Her weatlh of experience will be invaluable to Barcud Derwen as it faces the challenging changes currently taking place in television industry.
Bryn Roberts, Group Managing Director of Barcud Derwen, added: "I'd like to thank Emlyn Davies for ten years as Chairman of the Group. Under his guidance, the group has developed to become one of the leaders in its sector. He has been extremely supportive of the management team over the years. We now enter a new era under Dr Carol Bell. It is a challenging time in our industry as in many other industries. To have someone of Dr Bell's experience will prove invaluable as we move forward confidently in this digital age."
