RK Media Group Builds Los Angeles Based Facility Around VECTORBOX

A pioneer in graphics and playout solutions, Vector3, has announced that TV Korea has built a brand new studio in Los Angeles, CA, with the VECTORBOX integrated playout solutions at the heart of the operation.
TV Korea is a fully owned DTV Channel of RK Media Group, one of South Korea's largest broadcasters. The state-of-the-art facility is designed to deliver high-quality Korean programming seven days a week, 24 hours a day.
The line-up includes a combination of popular shows produced in Korea with a variety of live news and thematic programs produced in the Los Angeles studio.
The tapeless production and playout infrastructure consists of Apple Final Cut Pros for editing, For-A and Harris for multi-viewing and routing of media standard IT storage, with Vector managing the media ingest, content and graphics playout and automation for both continuity and live broadcasts.
SangDae Kim, Director of TV Programming & Production, TV Korea, said: "The Korean-American community relies heavily on our abilities to deliver relevant and timely news as well as entertainment. It was important that we built a studio with flexible technology that enabled us to deliver on both.
"Vector has a phenomenal reputation for their world-class technology. The price-performance value proposition far exceeded their peers and the customer satisfaction with existing broadcasters made the decision to go with Vector easy."
Roman Ceano, President and Founder of Vector 3, said: "Our systems are developed on open-IT based standards and support a wide range of equipment and languages. TV Korea wanted a mix of solutions backed with insurance and proven success of a fully integrated ingest - playout solution.
"Our global references and wide range of installation configurations serve as proven experience that our solutions are capable of managing a wide range of workflows with unbeatable performance and reliability."
Broadcast system integrator IISN Systems, who specialises in Korean systems integrations, designed and deployed the installation at TV Korea Los Angeles. The sister operation in New York is due to launch later in 2009. The file-based workflow provides a flexible infrastructure for supporting the current 80 plus staff, easily scaling the operation as TV Korea expands its programming options. In addition to delivering full ingest and playout capabilities, the Vector system allows users to update graphics on the fly. Satellite, RSS data or MXL feeds can be branded - manually or automated - during live playout. The TV Korea installation was integrated and deployed by IISN in 16 days.
