ARRI Relativity Advances Creative Choices In Post

In response to overwhelming demand from program makers to use film on productions bound for all digital platforms, including HDTV, ARRI introduces RELATIVITY, the most advanced degrain software tool in the world.
Modular and easily configured to meet the needs of individual customers, the full software bundle currently comprises three applications: Texture Control, Film Simulation and SpaceTime Converter.
ARRI RELATIVITY permits absolute control of the texture, grain and noise of images acquired in any film or digital camera format. Grain can be removed entirely, reduced, or even added, allowing formats to be mixed and matched without any textural variation. The software easily overcomes grain difficulties that have prompted some television broadcasters to restrict film content, particularly Super 16 material on HD channels.
Glenn Kennel, Chief Technology Officer for ARRI, said: "In the last decade, film postproduction has been reinvented by the application of digital tools to the colour correction and finishing process. RELATIVITY takes the DI process to another level, providing interactive control of grain and texture, plus motion effects."
Besides permitting new productions bound for HD broadcast to be shot on Super 16, ARRI RELATIVITY opens unlimited opportunities for existing film-originated television programs in archives across the globe to be remastered, degrained and broadcast in HD for new generations. Inconsistencies of grain tolerance between international broadcasters need never be an issue again.
ARRI RELATIVITY ideally sits between scanning or telecine and colour grading in a postproduction workflow. The technology was developed by Cinnafilm, a New Mexico software developer, teaming with Digital Film Central, a Vancouver postproduction facility, and is marketed exclusively by ARRI.
