Duncan Jones, Director Of Critically Acclaimed Moon To Helm Escape From The Deep

Brilliant Films has announced that Director Duncan Jones (Moon) will direct Escape From The Deep, a feature film based on the non-fiction novel of the same name by British author, journalist and scriptwriter Alex Kershaw, who will also adapt the screenplay.
Making the announcement, Joe Abrams, President of Brilliant Films said: "Duncan's debut feature film, Moon, marks the arrival of a great new directing talent and has had a phenomenal reception on the global festival circuit. We are very excited to have him onboard Escape From The Deep."
Duncan Jones said: "Alex Kershaw's book is incredible and a powerful story that will come alive on the big screen. To be working alongside the Brilliant team is fantastic and I'm very much looking forward to creating a tense action movie with them that highlights an important part of history."
Escape From The Deep tells the remarkable true story of the legendary WW2 US Navy submarine, USS Tang, which malfunctioned when its own torpedo carried out a circular run, hitting the Tang, and causing it to sink to the bottom of the Pacific.
The survivors battled to stay alive in their submerged 'iron coffin' - 180 feet beneath the surface, while the enemy dropped deadly depth charges from above.
The only escape route - a tiny escape trunk above the forward torpedo chambers. The men battled fire and gas explosions, to face the greatest challenge of them all - to swim 180 feet to the surface without drowning or getting 'the bends'. Nine heroes made it - the only men to ever do so unaided from an American submarine.
Brilliant Films is funding the development of the project via their own development fund. Brilliant's Joe Abrams and Rory Gilmartin will produce.
