Dyke Inquiry To Focus On Making UK A 'Global Hub For Creativity'

A high-powered review of the current state of the UK's creative industries being undertaken for the Conservatives is to focus on ways of making "Britain a global hub for content creation and distribution".
Asking questions about sustaining investment in UK content in the digital age and what reforms of the intellectual property regime will encourage content creators, the investigation is to be chaired by an industry high-flyer, Greg Dyke.
Lis Murdoch and Ashley Highfield are among some of the other major figures that will take part.
News of the participants was revealed by the Westminster Shadow Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt, when he launched the review in April.
He said it would examine ways in which a future Conservative government could ensure that the UK remains an international hub for content creation and distribution.
The politician said that it is intended to look beyond the Government's Digital Britain report and will be chaired by the former BBC Director General, later Chairman of the British Film Institute.
The inquiry will be conducted over the next few months, with a view to reporting in the autumn. The new initiative's conclusions will follow the Digital Britain recommendations - which are part of a process launched by Labour's Communications Minister, Lord Carter.
Its results are due to be published in the summer.
"The Digital Britain process has been strong on analysis but so far weak on action," Mr Hunt said.
"There is a real opportunity for our creative industries to lead Britain out of the recession - but only if governments are prepared to deliver on their rhetoric.
"This review will look at the tangible, practical actions that need to happen if Britain is to capitalise on its competitive strength as one of the leading creators of digital in the world."
As well as Dyke, Murdoch and Highfield, the 13-strong review team also includes former Ofcom executive and Ingenious Media director Kip Meek, Classic FM Managing Director Darren Henley, TV distribution veteran Rupert Dilnott-Cooper and former Sky Head of Content Strategy, Will Turner.
