Incite and Sony collaborate to allow instant field editing

Sony have combined their DSR-DU1 portable Video Disk Unit with two new Incite products, Incite Remote Producer and Incite Newsmaker, to allow content creators to shoot and edit immediately, even in remote locations, preserving and loading the metadata directly from the disk.
The solution is ideal for news, videography, documentary and corporate productions, or indeed any environment where the DVCAM format is widely used and footage needs immediate viewing and editing.
Olivier Bovis, Marketing Manager at Sony Business Europe, said: “DVCAM, since its introduction in 1996, has been satisfying the news broadcast market more and more. The DSR-DU1 and our partnership with Incite and their applications will benefit not only the educational and corporate markets, but also the newsroom, where DVCAM is beginning to be widely used for production in IT environments.”
Sony’s DSR-DU1 Video Disk Unit is a portable 40GB 2.5” hard drive that attaches directly to professional quality DVCAM camcorders, recording up to three hours of video/audio signals in parallel with tape recording and providing unique features for clip selection directly on the disk.
Remote Producer and Newsmaker are Incite’s software-based editing applications for on-line editing of DV camcorder footage for laptops and PCs. Both programs take advantage of Incite’s media management and editing tools to browse, preview and edit media directly from Sony’s DSR-DU1, facilitating the creation of complete projects and sequences.
Incite’s dynamic architecture ensures the solution is also completely open, especially important for news environments. Editors are free to exchange their projects with other Incite applications independently of the file format, and export their sequences to the third party playout solutions used in many enterprise-level news facilities.
