Projecting A Bright Future For New Cinema

Projection equipment for Cornwall's first brand new cinema in over 70 years has been installed, ahead of its official opening to the public next month.
Staff at White River Cinema in St Austell have been setting up four projectors which will be used to show more than 100 films a year in the new state-of-the-art building.
Worth nearly £500,000, the equipment has been kept in storage for the last three months after it was taken out of the old St Austell FilmCentre. Since then the projectors have been modified and updated ready for use again in their new surroundings.
The projection system is Century of Chicago, USA, and will be showing 35mm film, however, WTW Cinemas has ensured provisions have been made to convert to digital projectors in the future and an additional 'porthole' has been created for each screen to allow for this. New speakers and sound heads will be installed to allow for Dolby Digital surround sound.
Mark Williams, General Manager of White River Cinema, said: "We are delighted with the progress being made on the new cinema, the installation of the projectors provides a really tangible sign that the completion of the cinema and its opening is in sight.
"Over the next few weeks our projectionists will be working with the projection installation company Sound Associates and Cinema Screens, the screen contractors, to configure the equipment and start to get pictures on the big screens."
The four screens, which are wall to wall and floor to ceiling in dimension, will give the highest possible picture and the projectors will be configured to fit the screen sizes in the week before the opening of the £3.5 million cinema.
There will also be a subtitling service and infra-red system for the hard of hearing and audio description facilities for the visually impaired.
All the projectors will be housed in a single projection box room above the first floor foyer in building on Trinity Street - in the previous FilmCentre; there were three separate projection boxes.
The cinema is the first phase of the town centre redevelopment scheme to open and is part of a three-year development plan by WTW Cinemas, which includes achieving planning consent for a new four-screen cinema in Newquay and the refit of the existing Plaza cinema in Truro.
