Liverpool premiere for ‘My Kingdom’

An exclusive screening of a movie shot almost entirely in Liverpool is to be held in the city – and will be attended by some of the stars of the film.
A special cast and crew showing of 'My Kingdom', which features Richard Harris and Lynn Redgrave in the lead roles, is to take place at Crosby Community Cinema on Crosby Road North in Waterloo on Tuesday, October 8 at 8pm.
Director and co-writer Don Boyd, producer Neil Weisman and actors Paul McGann and Emma Catherwood will be amongst those in attendance, along with a host of other local celebrities.
‘My Kingdom’ is set against the backdrop of modern day Liverpool and is a contemporary interpretation of Shakespeare’s King Lear. Richard Harris plays Sandeman, a crime lord whose wife Mandy, played by Lynn Redgrave, is shot dead in a mugging incident.
The film was shot almost entirely in Liverpool with assistance from the city council’s Film Office.
The screening has been organised by BAFTA North in association with the Film Office, ahead of its general release at cinemas across the country on Friday October 11 2002.
Councillor Warren Bradley, Executive Member for Leisure and Culture, said: “This is another feather in Liverpool’s movie making cap! The premiere will be a great event and I am looking forward to seeing some familiar Liverpool landmarks on the big screen.”
Film Office manager Lynn Saunders said: “The cast of My Kingdom includes some of the biggest names in the British movie industry and is sure to attract a lot of interest when it hits the big screen.
“It will focus the attention of the film industry on Liverpool yet again, which is excellent news for the city.”
