Hathor Audio Helps The University Of Westminster Upgrade Its Recording Facilities

Hathor Audio, the technical and acoustic design consultancy headed by John Goldstraw, is helping the University of Westminster's School of Media, Arts and Design (MAD) to upgrade one of the four high-end recording studios that it operates from its Harrow Road site.
The Centre for Commercial Music at MAD has recently invested in new equipment for the studio, which is now equipped with an Amek Angela console, PMC and M&K monitoring and a Pro Tools HD3 system with a Prism Sound ADA-8 AD/DA interface.
John Goldstraw, who was Technical Director at Metropolis Studios before setting up Hathor Audio, is advising on new acoustic treatments to ensure that the room delivers the very best stereo and 5.1 results. He is also helping to transform a former storage area into an acoustically accurate listening room where staff and students can review their work.
Alan Fisher, Head of Commercial Music at MAD, said: "Having taken the decision to upgrade the equipment in this studio, it then made sense for us to address the room acoustics. John's advice has been invaluable because he really understands what we are trying to achieve and has also been able to suggest cost effective solutions that allow us to stick to our overall budget."
John Goldstraw added: "The education sector is not very different from the commercial; each strives to get the best quality from the resources available. The training and development of staff was of paramount importance to me whilst working for the Metropolis Group and bringing an employer's view point into the equation adds an extra dimension to the tuition, and the choice of equipment."
The Centre for Commercial Music at MAD aims to offer BA and Masters degree courses that educate and extend natural talent, as well as prepare students for a potential career in the music industry.
The Centre has 12 studios in total - 8 project studios equipped with home recording gear and four high end facilities where students can learn to operate the type of equipment commonly found in commercial recording studios.
