Batman Classification Defended By Film Body

The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) has defended the classification given to the latest Batman movie The Dark Knight.
More than 80 complaints were received about the film's disturbing content despite a 12A certificate being given.
Sue Clark, the film regulator's spokeswoman said the film was a "fantasy movie with only implied violence".
The Joker played by the late Heath Ledger uses a knife as his main weapon and he is subjected to blows dealt by Batman in the interrogation scene.
The BBFC say that the sequel adheres to the rule of the 12A certificate, as the sequences do not "dwell on violence" or "emphasise injury and blood".
Keith Vaz MP, Chair of the Home Affairs Select Committee, is unhappy with the certificate and says Ledger's use of a knife is "unsuitable" given the current knife problems in the UK.
Mr Vaz complained about "scenes of gratuitous violence in the Dark Knight," adding "I would certainly would not take my 11-year-old daughter".
However, Ms Clarke has stressed the fantasy nature of Christopher Nolan's film.
"Younger teenagers would not have been able to see it, and they are the very people who are going to love it.
"We would have ended up with far more complaints from people who wanted to see the film and couldn't," she said.
The body confirmed that Warner Bros had asked for The Dark Knight to be classified as 12A.
The Dark Knight starring Christian Bale is on track to become the second-biggest movie of all time after maintaining pole position in the North American box office for a third week.
The total money the movie has taken in the US is $394.9m (£200m). The current number one is Titanic, which took $601m (£305m) in 1997.
