News Image
TV presenter of Sooty, Richard Cadell, has announced the acquisition of children's property Sooty from owners Bridgefilms, a joint venture whose shareholders include HIT Entertainment, Global Rights Development and Guinness Flight Venture Capital Trust.
The Sooty character was first discovered by his first 'handler' Harry Corbett on the North pier, Blackpool, 60 years ago and the character remains the star of the longest running children's TV show in the world.
Sooty is an iconic and beloved children's character and reflects British children's entertainment at its very best, incorporating hilarious slapstick comedy routines and magnificent magic tricks.
Joined by Sweep and Soo, this mischievous bear is always up to no good. His unique brand of mayhem and exciting adventures always carry a strong sense of innocence and fun, making the show perfect viewing for children.
Bridgefilms previoulsy acquired the rights to Sooty in May 1996 and in 1999, Gullane Entertainment PLC (now Gullane Entertainment Ltd) acquired 50% of Bridgefilms Limited as a joint venture with a number of venture capital investors.
HIT Entertainment, one of the world's leading independent children’s entertainment producers and rights owners acquired Gullane Entertainment Ltd in 2002.
Mr Cadell has exciting plans for Sooty's future and will be busy creating brand new material for a live tour and developing formats for a new TV series.
Richard Cadell is an entertainment entrepreneur who has written, directed and produced numerous theatrical shows through his production company, Duo Entertainment.
He also owns and runs the largest amusement park in the South West of England and is constantly in demand as a consultant for major TV programmes placing him in prime position to shape the future of children's entertainment through the creation of shows of the highest quality.
Jeff Dunn, Chief Executive Officer HIT Entertainment added: "Sooty is a much loved and iconic children's character in the UK and we wish Richard and his team continued success with the property."
