France 3 Benefits From Sony's XDCAM SD

Halfway through its XDCAM SD solutions deployment, France 3 announced that it has already equipped 24 regional newsrooms throughout France with 482 camcorders and decks.
Talking about the first partnership of such scope between a television channel and a global audiovisual solution provider in France, Yves Lebras, Technical Director of the channel, said: "We have at last removed the burden of tape costs. Sony's Professional Disc has several advantages in that it remains very affordable, allows immediate and random access to all the recorded clips and, of course, has a high life expectancy, which far exceeds tape."
By migrating to a workflow based on Sony's Professional Disc, TF1, which belongs to the France Televisions group, has been able to limit costs linked to usage. From an ergonomic perspective, the XDCAM SD solution has also considerably accelerated processes, compared to previous Betacam SX equipment. Lebras added: "This solution offers optimal picture quality and the file based workflow is modern. Everything must stay and is easy to use."
A key point of the solution has been the after sales Prime Support Service from Sony. Thanks to the strong support from the French Sony team, France 3 benefited from a "close to the customer" experience, adapted to their specific needs. Lebras concluded: "Prime Support showed us how our initial investment could be optimised, although in the beginning our choice was driven mainly by ergonomics, image and sound quality."
