Tern Explores 'Britannia' With Nick Crane For BBC Two

Tern Television has been commissioned to produce 'Nick Crane's Britannia', a 3x60 minute documentary series for BBC Two.
The series will be made by the same team behind last year's highly successful and BAFTA nominated BBC Two series 'Great British Journeys'.
As he embarks on his most ambitious television journey to date, Crane will follow in the footsteps of Elizabethan explorer William Camden.
William Camden's 'Britannia', the first definitive description of Britain, was published in the late 16th Century. Camden not only studied Britain's rivers, towns and landscapes, but also successfully documented the character of Britain, writing about its people, their customs, languages and superstitions.
With the help of Camden's spectacular account, Nick Crane will navigate his way across the UK, uncovering secrets from the past, to create his own modern day 'Britannia'. In a celebration of Great Britain's history, Crane will reawaken the Elizabethan age and examine how things have changed, how accurate the original audit was and what lessons the original 'Britannia' can teach about Britain's past, present and possible future.
Harry Bell, Creative Director, Tern Television, said: "We're delighted to have Nick Crane presenting the series following the previous success of 'Map Man' and 'Great British Journeys'. 'Britannia' sees Nick take on his most epic journey yet - a 2500 miles odyssey through Wales, England, Scotland and Ireland - exploring for the first time the 'lost Elizabethan masterpiece, 'Britannia'."
Nick Crane's Britannia was commissioned by Richard Klein for BBC Two. The series producer and director is Michael Waterhouse; Ishbel Hall will also produce and direct. The executive producer for Tern Television is Harry Bell and the executive producer for the BBC is Neil McDonald.
It will be distributed by BBC Worldwide.
Tern Television is one of the most successful independent production companies outside London, whose turnover has increased 80% in the last three years.
The company has built a strong reputation for programming in the genres of specialist factual, factual entertainment, leisure, religion and observational documentary for the major UK broadcasters.
Established in Aberdeen, Tern has expanded to open offices in Glasgow, Belfast and London.
