Hamlet Demonstrate Efficient Programme To Video Transition

Hamlet, a leading international specialist in precision test, measurement, monitoring and quality control equipment, is using the UK’s new long awaited unified broadcast exhibition to demonstrate how programme quality can be maintained across a video, file-based or mixed environment. Included in the new products on show will be a photo-epilepsy test built into the automated file analysis tool Reel-Check.
Reek-Check implements all the standard quality control checks – on video, audio and metadata – in a Windows-based software program designed to check content in a file-based and base band environment.
Using the built in file management control, files can be assessed individually, by batch or automatically as files are ingested into the server, releasing personnel to deal with more pressing matters. The latest addition to its capabilities is a check for material – normally involving lights or images which flash regularly – which may trigger a seizure in those suffering from photo-sensitive epilepsy (PSE), thought to be around two people per 10,000 in the general population.
Broadcasters have always had to be aware of the possibility of content triggering PSE, and the recent launch of the London Olympic logo, which caused just this problem, brought the matter back into sharp focus. Now a check can be made for possible triggering sequences as part of the template of automated quality control within Reel-Check.
Sister product to Reel-Check, VidScope also a Windows-based program is designed to present up to six measurement displays on screen simultaneously. Both can assess any file or baseband signal Dual Link, HD and SD. VidScope has its own surround sound display called GMO plus the usual multitude of bar graph displays and associated ballistics. VidScope is a comprehensive, hardware alternative monitoring platform.
Also at Broadcast Live & VideoForum 2008 Hamlet will be demonstrating a new integrated generator/measurement module for its flagship products including standalone, rack-mount and portable hardware rasterizers. These include the latest versions of its MonitorScope, DigiScope 9000 series, covering HD, SD and analogue measurements including embedded and AES/EBU audio.
These instruments use Hamlet's patented digital processing and on-screen, in picture, display raster technique, allowing the display to be routed to any convenient monitor, in a tiled format if desired. The MonitorScope Includes a built-in 6.5" (165mm diagonal) high resolution LCD panel and comes in the traditional 3U half rack width format, but is only 133mm deep.
Engineers on the move who want precision, flexible HD, SD and analogue tools to hand at all times will find the Hamlet MicroFlex the ideal solution. Its larger brother the FlexiScope is already established as a favourite with engineers worldwide. With the addition of the new generator/measurement module both FlexiScope and MicroFlex are complete and uniquely powerful test tools.
Both share the same modular architecture with a selection of user plugged-in modules for analogue and digital measurements. With integral high-resolution screens for display of waveform, vector, audio and picture displays, and the built in speaker and headphone socket enables users to check for subjective audio quality. An input for an external reference and precision cursors allow absolute measurement. IP allows remote operation and error data download from any location.
