BBC Three's 'Upstaged' To View Life In Box

BBC Three has unveiled 'Upstaged', an innovative multi-platform entertainment event open to anyone across the country who thinks they are worth watching.
Using social networking, Upstaged will see the online community decide who they want to watch and who they don't in a live daily competition held on two competitive stages housed in glass boxes.
Who takes to the stage, what's considered to be entertaining and who earns the right to stay each day will be totally in the hands of the public.
The two glass boxes will be on public display in Millennium Square in Bristol, and for eight weeks everything that goes on within those walls will be streamed online or filmed for broadcast on BBC Three.
Danny Cohen, Controller, BBC Three, said: "I want BBC Three to become known for being a multi-platform pioneer. Upstaged will live and breathe primarily on the web. It's an exciting risk that I hope will stimulate more of these kinds of multi-platform and web-based shows for the BBC."
Tim Hincks, Chief Creative Officer of Endemol UK, added: "This is one of the most ambitious projects we've ever undertaken. It will start life as an exclusively online event and evolve into a simultaneous TV series, bringing together these different mediums in an exciting new way."
Members of the public will audition online to go into the specially-built glass boxes, from which they will entertain the nation in whatever way they choose. The public will then vote online as to who entertains them most with performers being replaced in one of the boxes every day throughout the run.
The first five weeks will be streamed exclusively on the web, whilst the last three weeks will be accompanied by programming on BBC Three.
Commissioned by Elaine Bedell, Controller, Entertainment Commissioning, and made by Initial West (an Endemol company), Upstaged will run for eight weeks, and will air next year.
