Daystar Orders Ninth QuStream DRS Audio Router For Studio Installation

QuStream Corporation has announced that Daystar Television has ordered its ninth QuStream DRS (Distributed Routing System) audio router for installation in the studio at its headquarters in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.
The DRS will be used alongside an existing QuStream video routers to produce programmes for transmission via a network of stations located around the country.
"We already have several QuStream routers including a 16 x 16 HD level in our 512 x 512 Cheetah Frame in the studio and a 256 x 256 Cheetah in our 40 foot production trailer," said Steve McNeal, Director of Engineering at the Daystar Television Network.
"We also have several DRS modules in a portable venue-rack. We feed signals from the rack via fiber back to the DRS router in the production trailer. We also have the ability to use CWDM fiber between the trailer and studio routers.
"The Cheetahs have proved very reliable which made us very confident in QuStream technology. The DRS audio routers offer us a very high degree of operational and technical versatility. They combine the attributes of TDM and packet routers and can be distributed throughout a facility in multiple 1 RU chassis instead of being centralized in a single large chassis. Each chassis has redundant power supplies, redundant control boards plus redundant cooling and can convert analogue to AES or AES to analogue. Individual chassis can be interconnected via CAT 5E cable which makes the system very easy to install and expand. Boards can be changed from the front of the chassis if necessary for easy maintenance."
QuStream's DRS accommodates 64 x 64 AES (64 pairs) or analogue audio router in 1 RU, expandable to 2048 x 2048 in 36 distributed chassis. I/O connectors for 64 inputs or outputs, two control inputs and two CAT 5 connectors allow 128 total inputs or outputs as the connectors handle stereo pairs. Routing can be flat or in any group combination depending on switcher configuration. The analogue audio input chassis accepts balanced audio and converts it to AES at 96 kHz sampling rate. Total delay from input to output is constant and only a few clocks of 96 kHz. When an error is detected, the last sample is repeated. The high sampling frequency means every alternate word can be lost with zero degradation.
