Robert Carlyle To Star in Spy Drama ‘I Know You Know’

Emmy nominee Robert Carlyle, who found fame in ‘The Full Monty’ and ‘Trainspotting’, is set to star in writer-director Justin Kerrigan’s new feature film ‘I Know you Know’.
Carlyle will take the lead role of Charlie in the coming of age drama, in which a boy relishes the excitement and challenge of his father’s espionage work; until the ‘spy game’ turns real.
With several award wins and nominations to his name, Cardiff born Kerrigan is best known for his 1999 hit ‘Human Traffic’ for which he won a BAFTA Cymru Award for Best Director and a Bermuda International Film Festival Jury Prize Award in 2000. He was nominated for a Carl Foreman Award for the Most Promising Newcomer at the BAFTA Awards in 2000 and also won Special Prize of the Jury at the Brussels International Film Festival.
Kerrigan is working alongside the experienced and award winning producer Sally Hibbin, whose extensive list of credits include ‘Yasmin’. ‘Liam’ starring Ian Hart and ‘Carla’s Song’ that was directed by Ken Loach and starred Robert Caryle. He also appeared in her 1990 hit ‘Riff Raff’.
“This is the first film that I’ve made in Wales. I have been particularly pleased with the support that we have received and I am looking forward to filming in Cardiff later this year,” Hibbin said.
Due to filmed in Cardiff this Autumn, ‘I Know you Know’ has the financial backing of the Film Agency for Wales.
Pauline Burt, Chief Executive of the Film Agency said: “As an agency, we are absolutely focussed on supporting Welsh born and/or resident key talent with a particular emphasis on writers, directors and producers. Justin is a considerable talent and we’re delighted to have the opportunity to facilitate his next project getting made. His story is original, touching, evocative and has, in our opinion, the potential to travel significantly at an international level.
“This is one of six features that we’re currently supporting with production finance – each of which is distinctive, with writers, directors and/or producers that we’re particularly keen to back, and who we believe should have a platform in the wider film industry.”
The Film Agency for Wales is funded by the Arts Council for Wales, the UK Film Council and the Welsh Assembly Government, via Creative Business Wales, the latter of which was set up to support, encourage and increase the range and number of films being produced in Wales and to foster the abundance of creative talent in Wales.
