Smith & Foulkes Take Gold Film Lion Award For Coca Cola 'Videogame' Spot

Nexus directors Smith & Foulkes were awarded with a Gold in the Film Lions on 23 June, for their ‘Videogame’ spot for iconic brand Coca Cola.
This follows it picking up Gold at the BTAA awards and a Gold Pencil at AICP.
The fully computer animated commercial was created in HD for Wieden & Kennedy (Portland). The commercial, which first played out last Summer during the Super Bowl in the US, follows Ray, a menacing computer game tough guy. Following a swig of Coca Cola, Ray embarks on a rampage not of expected violence and destruction but of love, kindess, song and dance.
While the landscape in the commercial resembles the urban landscape of current computer games, the characters have a far wider range of emotion and expression. Smith and Foulkes even worked with a choreographer and filmed dancers who interpreted the moves for individual characters in the grand finale – an old school ‘show’ inspired chorus of singing and dancing.
This is not the first win at Cannes for a Smith & Foulkes and Weiden & Kennedy pairing. At Cannes Lions 2005 the Nexus and Wieden & Kennedy partnership swept the board winning the Film and Titanium Grands Prix and the Film Journalists' Award for the Honda Grrr! Commercial.
Charlotte Bavasso, Executive Producer and co-founder of Nexus Productions, commented: "We are very pleased that this is the second time in 2 years that Nexus have won another gold. The creative concept from Wieden & Kennedy for Coca Cola was very strong and we thought it would do well."
