Leader's CINELITE Allows High-Precision Exposure Adjustment

Leader Instruments has announced a powerful and highly innovative option for its LV5700A, LV5750 and LV5800 digital test instruments.
CINELITE enables television content producers to determine optimal camera exposure settings much more precisely than is possible with a traditional luminance meter. By detecting the actual signal levels captured during pre-shoot line-up rather merely displaying local light intensity, CINELITE allows a camera's full dynamic range to be used.
"CINELITE is ideal for use by HD programme-makers as it reduces the performance gap between television and film," explains Paul Vos, Managing Director of elQuip BV, Broadcast Master Distributor for Leader Electronics Corporation in Europe. "It works in real time and is extremely easy to operate. When a camera is connected via SDI cable or digitising interface to the Leader test instrument, the actual picture can be displayed on a 1024 x 768 pixel TFT LCD screen. Hairline cursors can then be used to select the brightest and darkest points in the scene. At the press of a button, CINELITE shows the optimal exposure setting either as an f-stop or, if preferred, as a percentage value. This allows the camera to be adjusted for best possible exposure, reducing or eliminating the time needed to correct colour balance, gamma and contrast during post-production. When incorporated into the recently-announced Leader LV5800, four different points of interest on a live feed can be monitored simultaneously which makes CineLite a very powerful tool. Colour shaders will also appreciate CINELITE as it enables them to rescue undershot or overshot source material more efficiently than simply relying on perceptual estimation."
The CINELITE option can be purchased both for new and existing LV5700A, LV5750 and LV5800 instruments. These support 20 video formats including 1080i, 720p, 525i/59.94 and 625i/50.
Introduced to the European market in December 2006, the LV5800 was the first instrument in the LV5000 series to allow simultaneous viewing of four SDI or HD-SDI sources. Screens and information shown on the display can optionally be output to any compatible XGA monitor. The LV5800 modular multi-monitor platform enables broadcasters and facility supervisors to define a Dual Link SDI/HD-SDI signal analyser that meets their current requirements while allowing easy future expansion. It retains the intuitive user interface that has proved so popular in the LV5700A and LV5750. Twin auto-detecting inputs make the LV5800 compliant with all HD-SDI and SD-SDI standards, including 1080p/50 via Dual Link.
