Thomson Unveils Major Boost To Grass Valley EDIUS At NAB

News Image
Thomson unveiled a major upgrade to its Grass Valley EDIUS multi-format editing platform at NAB.
EDIUS 4.5 offers a new graphical user interface (GUI) design, support for even more formats and additional features including import/export of AAF and GXF, simple DVD authoring and support for VMF.
“EDIUS is a key element in Grass Valley’s ‘anything in, anything out’ philosophy of multi-format capabilities,” said Jeff Rosica, Senior Vice President, Broadcast and Professional Solutions for the Grass Valley business within Thomson. “As new formats continue to reach the market and become commonplace in acquisition and distribution systems, editing solutions must ensure they can seamlessly handle the requirements of any project without limiting the creativity of the editor.”
EDIUS version 4.5 introduces a sleek new user interface, part of a company-wide initiative to develop a common look and feel to software-driven products, allowing the user interface to be tailored precisely to the needs of the user while being intuitive in operation.
The release also includes support for additional formats including JPEG2000 as used for HD recording in the Grass Valley Infinity digital media camcorder; Panasonic AVC-Intra and DVCPRO HD 720p; Sony HDV 1080 24p/25p/30p; and JVC HDV 720 50p/60p.
These additions bring the total number of formats supported by EDIUS to more than 70, while retaining the software’s ability to freely mix formats on a single timeline.
The enhancements follow the launch at IBC 2006 of Grass Valley’s four EDIUS turnkey editing workstations with dedicated hardware and offering integration with the Grass Valley K2 media server for networked editing.
The K2 EDIUS Share SAN with fibre channel storage marks the interoperability of EDIUS and the Grass Valley K2 media server, bringing new levels of price/performance and workflow efficiencies to broadcast and post production environments.
Debuted at NAB 2007, EDIUS 4.5 is a free upgrade.
