APT Set To Launch Extensive IIP Audio Capabilities On WorldNet Oslo

Audio Compression and Codec Specialist APT, is set to launch extensive new IP audio capabilities on the WorldNet Oslo, their flagship product for HD Radio STL applications, at this year’s NAB exhibition.
The jewel in the crown of APT’s broadcast audio codecs, the WorldNet Oslo offers broadcasters and service providers a flexible, highly reliable and multi-featured platform for the transport of up to 28 mono or 14 stereo channels over a variety of networks. NAB 2007 sees the introduction of a new dual port IP card and ISDN transport module which, together with the existing T1/E1 transport option, allow the broadcaster to tailor the unit’s configuration for both the main and back-up links of their choice.
The Dual Port IP card will open up a wealth of options to the broadcaster enabling greater flexibility, security and control. In addition to allowing connection to two separate IP networks for the purposes of back-up, the secondary port can enable control, communications and other non-time sensitive information to be sent via an alternative route such as the public internet, ensuring an uncontended main link dedicated to audio transfer. The secondary port will also enable features such as cross connect/drop and insert between two different IP networks and in-band management over IP.
Other new features on the WorldNet Oslo include the ability to send uncompressed linear audio for pure PCM quality, to compress the audio using MPEG 1/2 Layer II or to utilise companding techniques such as J.57 and J.41. These capabilities supplement the core Enhanced apt-X coding technology which offers cascade-resilient, near-lossless audio quality with under 2ms delay.
A maximum of 28 audio channels in simplex mode and a minimum of 2 audio channels in duplex mode are possible in each WorldNet Oslo frame. Slot-in audio modules in over 12 different configurations offer analog, AES/EBU, simplex, duplex and 5.1 phase-locked options. Redundant power supplies, “hot-swappable” cards and automatic back-up functionality ensure 24/7/365 reliability for mission-critical applications such as studio to transmitter links.
All unit settings can be managed remotely using the Codec Management System; a powerful graphical user interface that provides extensive configuration, control and fault monitoring capability of multiple WorldNet Oslos and other APT IP audio codecs. In-band Management enables control and monitoring of a network of units over E1/T1 without the need for additional dedicated comms link.
At NAB 2007, APT will also be launching the WorldCast Eclipse, a new multi-interface, multi-algorithm codec for IP, Leased Line and ISDN audio networking.
APT will be exhibiting at NAB Booth N4218.
