Broadcast Video and Corporate Film Production Company Goes Climate Neutral

A Midlands-based business video production and digital design agency, is offsetting greenhouse gas emissions from every mile of road, rail and air travel, on every project in 2007.
Iceni said that this offsetting is offered at absolutely no extra cost to clients. Through an approved offsetting scheme, carbon emissions from essential travel are 'balanced' by payments to companies dedicated to reducing global warming. As well as cutting greenhouse gases, the projects help to improve people's standards of living and protect wildlife habitats.
The offsetting contributions have gone towards projects in India and Uganda that promote renewable energy, energy efficiency and rainforest restoration.
Andi Jepson, Director of iceni said: "It's not always practical to transport production crew and kit to locations using public transport, and during the course of a year we have to fly a lot of miles to produce and film programmes, conferences and events.
"In addition to offsetting, we continue to look for ways to minimise energy consumption and our impact on the environment. 100% of the electricity supply to our studio is generated from wind, wave, small scale hydro and solar power, creating zero grams of CO2.
"Our travel and our energy consumption are the largest part of a business video or corporate DVD production's carbon footprint. Now we can say that our clients' communications projects will have a positive effect on the audience with minimal effects on the environment."
The company's stationery is printed on recycled paper and all of the copier paper is recycled stock. Around the studio there are scrap paper boxes, and staff are encouraged to reuse paper whenever possible. All used paper is shredded and sent to a recycling facility. In the office, iceni use solid ink printers producing 90% less waste than an average laser printer.
Bottles and cans are recycled and any food waste is put into a wormery, where hungry tiger worms turn it into compost. And there are happy hippos in the toilet cisterns, reducing the amount of water used with every flush.
